Staff, Faculty, Students Get H1N1 Vaccinations
Only Nasal Spray Vaccination Available
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Nov. 4, 2009 – UNC Charlotte is providing H1N1 vaccinations from noon until 4 p.m. through Friday, Nov. 6 to students, staff and faculty. The vaccination is provided at no cost. Staff and faculty who report for vaccination must present their University identification for admittance. Vaccinations are NOT available to the general public.
Those seeking vaccination should report to the lower level of the Student Health Center. UNC Charlotte’s Student Health Center began dispensing the vaccine to students on Monday.
Only the nasal spray vaccination is available.
People NOT eligible to receive the nasal spray vaccination include:
Adults 50 years and older
Pregnant women
People with weakened immune systems
People with long-term health problems including:
Heart disease
Kidney or liver disease
Lung disease
Metabolic disease (diabetes)
Asthma
Anemia or other blood disorders
Muscle or nerve disorders (cerebral palsy) leading to breathing or swallowing problems
People in close contact with persons with severely weakened immune systems requiring care in a protected environment
Children or adolescents on long term aspirin treatment
People who are moderately or severely ill should wait until they are feeling better to receive the vaccination.
Approximately 660 special-priority students were being vaccinated at other appointed times. Special-priority students include those at high risk for flu complications, and College of Health and Human Services students who, through their clinical training in hospitals, have direct patient contact. They were identified by the Office of Disability Services and through SHC records.
